About Us: Bonita - San Diego Cosmetic Dentistry

Bonita Family Dental was established by Dr. Jon Cunningham in 1978, when the shopping center was initially constructed. Since there were no dental practices in this part of South County at the time, residents had to drive to downtown or other areas around the county to take care of their dental needs.

How It All Began

Dr. Jon Cunningham, a 2nd generation dentist from USC, followed the footsteps of his father Dr. Clyde Cunningham (seen in the photograph). Dr. Jon anticipated and understood the dental needs for a neighborhood that was just beginning to take shape. Having served in a Language Institute, Dr. Jon was well prepared to interact and serve the diverse population and its varied needs. Though Dr. Jon is retired, he is very much missed by his patients and the staff.

How We Got Here

Just as the practice started getting busier, Dr. Jon passed over the mantle to his son Dr. Grey Cunningham, a 3rd generation dentist who also graduated from USC. Continuing with the practice tenet of "Listening to and understanding the needs of the patient, and educating them to make the most informed decisions", with regards to their dental well being and care, Dr. Grey expanded and grew the practice to where it is today. Dr. Grey is the driving force behind the practice and continues to focus his efforts, in the areas of Full mouth reconstruction and Cosmetic make overs. His passion for dentistry is well manifested in the quality and care which his patients have consistently gotten used to receiving.

Dr. Sandhya Hegde (President/CEO): Dr. Hegde has been practicing dentistry since 2000 and is a dual graduate from Loma Linda University (D.D.S.) & Mangalore University (B.D.S.). She has undergone advanced training in the field of Implant dentistry, Clear Retainers, Endodontic Therapy & Aesthetic Dentistry.

Dr. Grey Cunningham: Dr. Cunningham is a third generation dentist from USC, who has been in practice since 1988. Dr. Cunningham has had extensive post graduate training in the areas of Implantology, Bone and Tissue Grafting, Cosmetic dentistry, Full Mouth Reconstruction, Orthodontics and Invisalign Clear Braces. Dr. Cunningham graduated from the Las Vegas Institute of Cosmetic Dentistry in 1995 and is an associate professor at UCSD, treating needy patients and training undergraduate pre-dental students. Dr. Cunningham routinely performs multi unit veneer & implant cases and works closely with specialists, as needed, in ensuring the best care for his patients.

Dr. Waleed Stephan: Dr. Stephan is a graduate of the University of Mosul in 1987 and has been in practice in the San Diego area for over 12 years. Dr. Stephan is experienced in all aspects of general dentistry including cosmetic & orthodontic procedures. Dr. Stephan is looking to specialize in the area of Orthodontics and currently certified for Invisalign.

Dr. Christine Buenaventura: Dr. Buenaventura is a graduate of Loma Linda University School of Dentistry. Dr. Buenaventura also has a dual degree in general dentistry and has undergone post graduate studies in Orthodontics from the Philippines. Dr. Buenaventura has been practicing dentistry since 2000, having had her own dental practice. She is loved by her kid patients and is well regarded for her gentleness & comprehensive approach to dental care by all her patients.

Dr. Fabrice Gallez: Dr. Gallez is a certified Periodontist since 2001 and has been practicing in California ever since. Dr. Gallez received his dual specialization degrees from Loma Linda University and University of Brussels. He is well liked by his patients due to his friendly, down to earth and professional attitude. He is also fluent in English and French. Dr Gallez areas of expertise include traditional pocket reduction surgery, periodontal regeneration, implant site development using chin and ramus blocks, sinus augmentation and smile contouring surgeries.

Hygienists

Bonita Hygienists We have one of the most experienced Hygiene departments. Our hygiene teams include Dr. Thomas West, Genie Arteaga, Elvira (Elli) Khalil, & Nicole Shy and are very proficient in the areas of Soft Tissue Management & Periodontal Therapy. Periodontal or Gum disease is one of the most prevalent and the root cause of long term tooth failure and our hygiene department is very instrumental in educating our patients about the prevention and mitigation of this commonly seen condition.

Back Office

Bonita Back Office All our dental assistants are certified RDAs and some have taken the Extended Functions certification exam.
